What are Veneers?
Veneers are thin pieces of porcelain that are cemented over the front of your teeth. Unlike bridges or implants, veneers are not used to replace lost teeth but are used to improve the tooth cosmetically by changing the color, size and shape of the tooth. They are custom made for each patient according to the color and shape of the surrounding teeth.
They are very durable and last for many years. For patients with minors gaps in their teeth, veneers can be a good alternative to braces for a straight smile.
What to expect when getting Veneers
If you are a good candidate for veneers, the typical process to receive them takes two appointments.
The first appointment will be to take impressions of your teeth and to observe and record the proper color for the veneers. The surface of the teeth that will get the veneers will be adjusted and a temporary veneer will be placed.
A lab will construct your permanent veneers according to our instructions. A second visit will be scheduled after the lab delivers the veneers. During that second visit, your permanents will be placed and make sure the fit and look of your new teeth are satisfactory.
How to take care of veneers
After they are cemented, taking care of your veneers is as simple as brushing and flossing as you normally would. They do not require special care and should last years.
