About Dental Implants

colton dental implant
Dental implants are a great way to replace a missing tooth or multiple missing teeth. An implant is a robust tooth replacement that involves placing a post into the jaw. Because implants are connected to the jaw, they are very stable replacements and help the mouth hold its natural shape even after losing teeth.

What to Expect When Getting An Implant

Dr. Kon will perform an exam to determine if you are a good candidate for a dental implant. An implant will be more successful if the bone at the location of the implant is strong enough to support the force that is normally placed upon a tooth. In some cases, a healing material that helps bone grow can be placed to improve the chances of a successful implant.
A separate appointment will be made to place a metal implant post. This appointment is made as comfortable and painless as possible. Dr. Kon will also prescribe pain medication as needed to help you feel more comfortable as the implant area is healing. After the post is placed, the jaw is usually given a few months to heal.
After a few months, x-rays will be taken to make sure the implant post is secure. If the healing is completed, you will be ready to receive a dental crown on your implant post. The dental crown is the visible part of the implant that looks like a tooth.
Your dental crown visit will involve taking an impression of the healed area. It takes about 2 weeks for the dental lab to make the dental crown. When you return to the office for your following visit, Dr. Kon will place the implant crown on the post. This will complete the implant restoration and you will have a durable tooth replacement that feels and looks like your other natural teeth.
